June 13th, 2008 at 12:24 pm
Florida and Las Vegas are definitely the odd ducks out!
June 13th, 2008 at 1:07 pm
Ugh…the broken English is one thing, but writing a travel entry about vague destinations *already* on absolutely everyone’s to-do list (and also failing to, you know, tell people where some of them are), well, that’s either sheer laziness or sheer stupidity.
Florida? You picked the entire state? If you mean Disney World, say Disney World.
“When you take a tour to India, you should visit the golden temple.”
That’s something a child would write. And it is false.
The Harmandir Sahib (or Darbar Sahib) is in Amritsar, and it is one of the most uncomfortable places in the world to visit.
Much like the Taj Mahal (in Agra, Uttar Pradesh, incidentally…not that you’d be able to tell by reading this page), as one approaches the site, one is constantly hounded by half-naked, starving children pointing to their mouths and saying “hungry, hungry” over and over again.
If you start handing out money, no matter how much you’ve brought, you won’t have a single rupee left inside of ten seconds — and you won’t have dented in the least this hideous flood of human suffering. (If you don’t start handing out money, by the way, you’re a cold-hearted bastard.)
No tourist could possibly enjoy visiting either place.

Too U.S biased, plus the usual cliches… come on.
June 14th, 2008 at 10:56 am
my response is to ‘jordan’..
So I think you can be classified as a class A douche-bag. I’m sure where ever you’ve been raised, you’ve probably had most luxuries that most people don’t. Those poor, starving children barely have one meal a day, as well as no water, proper shelter or even clothes to wear. Yes true, it can get a bit annoying sometimes, and trust me I would know because I come from a third world country, but you should put yourself in their shoes and realize what their world is like. They target more tourists cos they think they have more money than the locals. Anyway, my point is that appreciate the Taj Mahal for what it represents and what it symbolizes in today’s world. It’s a work of art and considered a great wonder. The fact that starving children ask you for spare change should deter your opinion on the site.

We “me and family” made a trip to Petra in Jordan in April 2007. it was a piece of art and fabulous.
We flew from Berlin to Amman- Jordan. We traveled at modern buses with a guide/driver.
Our route was Amman, Jerash, Ajloun , Petra , Dead Sea.
On the way we experienced architectural, archaeological, historical and cultural places: noble mosques, interesting museums, ancient castle, unique ruins, stone paths, the lowest point on earth with mineral salty water at Dead sea. Also we went to see how nomads live in their tents.
Before our trip we got a lot of warnings and surprising comments on Jordanians’ hostility toward Westerners. Anyhow in every city, town and village we felt ourselves very welcome and every person was polite and hospitable to us.
Our guide was the best possible guide. His knowledge of Jordan, the past and the present is enormous and his driving style is convincing, A trip with him was like a trip with a friend not with a formal guide.
From my experience, liberty tourisms (http://libertytourism.com/) is one of the best tours at Jordan where all you may need and ask on one place.

July 7th, 2008 at 6:34 pm
I visited two of these places recently and I have to say they aren’t must-see.
Las Vegas, at least on the strip might be cool for shows, but the thing is just a giant cloud of second-hand smoke. If you like casinos and gambling you’re much better off hitting tribal casinos in places like Oregon and Washington.
The Grand Canyon isn’t fun in the summer it’s jammed with tourists. Places like Sedona, Arizona offer much better views with a fraction of the people.

Maldives, the best and cheapest way to Maldives resorts.

Rome is great No London? I’m sorry but that is another nice tourist area. Florida? umm could be a little bit more specific on where cause all of Florida is not a tourist attraction. I would suggest Rome, Instanbul, way more places like Florence Versialle these are all great places Pisa I suggest picking a country and just exploring its many cities

July 29th, 2008 at 7:31 pm
This list is pretty cool, though I’d seriously consider adding the Temples of Angkor – a massive temple complex overrun by jungle in Cambodia.

what about dubai?
and what about Russia or Africa….

Dubai?!! save your money and go somewhere with rich culture and real beauty. Dubai’s all artificial.
I agree with all the places in the list. You need years to see all the nice places in every continent depending on your taste. 10 sweet years of traveling would be well spent. Not easy to pick.
August 17th, 2008 at 6:01 am
Paris? why not go to stockolm instead? its very nice city, not overrun by tourists, lots of culture and you dont have to get a second mortage on your house to buy breakfast or a coffee in the city center.

November 17th, 2008 at 5:09 pm
Man, of all those places, I have only been to Florida and it wasn’t even that scenic. I was stuck in the Panhandle. The beaches were nice and the Blue Angels flying by all the time was cool.
I will see all of those places before I die or die while trying :-D
November 27th, 2008 at 7:32 am
I agree that Maldives is one of the places one should visit atleast once in their lifetime. Try to taste and feel the local stuff rather than sticking to a posh resort island for your entire holiday.
December 5th, 2008 at 9:11 am

awesome list! I love traveling and plan on doing more every year. I see people complaining about this list and I think there isn’t any best place because its all about personal taste. These places seem amazing! Florida is great I think Orlando is great for children, Miami is great for the wonderful food, beaches, shopping, and dancing!!!! And the florida keys is great for a tropical paradise. Paris France is awesome.. Also saw u don’t have Rome or Barcelona which are both great places to visit but it 25 places and I’m sure its hard to fit in every great place in a list… Thanks for this great website

July 19th, 2009 at 8:48 am
Love all the information and places to visit, although I must say you do need to be more specific as where we need to go. I also have to admit that I’m offended as a human not as a Brazilian, that you did not include in this list places like, Rio de Janeiro- RJ (Copacababa), Natal-RN (Ponta Negra), Salvador-BA, Recife-PE (Porto de Galinha, even Fernando de Noronha, and so on. Come on, if you’re a real traveler you’d have to know at least a few wonderful places to visit in my country. But, if you don’t then let me tell ya, look into it, I’m sure there will be no regrets.
Best regards,
A dear Brazilian friend.
P.S.: To all the jerks who spoke bad about Florida, let me tell you, that if you lived, (not visited, moron) but lived here you would see what’s good about it! And yes some were right, you weren’t specific as to where to go because up north really does suck! It’s like a fake city built to match all the theme parks, kinda weird. BUT, I must say that SOUTH FLORIDA is great. I’m sorry but we have the best weather, yes, very muggy and humid the pretty tourists can’t handle (neither can we sometimes) but it’s still lovely, packed with beautiful and interesting, WARMING people, because that’s how Latinos and even the native ones are. The beaches are a sight to see and nothing to miss or lose if you stop by. Not cool guys! Ny is boring, wild, packed, noisy, not eco at all.. Yes pretty but for a night or two. Mine is way more laid back an relaxing..While I’m typing all this laying on a hammock outside my house some are indoors with an ugly sky and a boring life. Stay well, and like always be classy.

Maldives is a perfect spot for scuba divers because of the fabulous coral reefs and abundance of underwater life.
September 13th, 2009 at 8:34 am
Nothing new in this list, the usual suspects as far as must visit places in the world are concerned. Now what would be really interesting would be 25 slightly unknown but fantastic places that we should visit in our lifetime. Which the writer has actually been to themselves, so they could give a proper endorsement. Places like Glencoe or Sandwood Bay in Scotland.
October 2nd, 2009 at 5:21 am
for those ppl who say sri lanka is beautiful, trust me it’s not. I have been there. Even the shoppping malls look very old, no kidding. You should go to Majestic City of Sri Lanka, crappy place. The road is overcrowded. In other words, it just isnt pretty.
Dubai palm island is very pretty, but I’m very suprised thats Beijings, new opera house “the egg” is not there. In my opinion, it is very worth of visiting. And so is Maldives. One of the most beautiful islands ever seen (: and it has the first underwater retaurant, amazing..!
October 13th, 2009 at 10:48 pm

you forget to put bali in the list. :-)

Alaska should be on the list. Seeing huge snow covered mountains on the Pacific ocean under the midnight sun is a once in a lifetime site.
November 17th, 2009 at 6:51 am
The picture of Grand Canyon displays Skywalk in the Grand Canyon West Rim located on Hualapai Tribe lands and not in the Grand Canyon National Park. The two places are 224 miles away from each other by the roads (approximately 5 hours driving) or around 120 miles apar as the bird flies.
December 12th, 2009 at 8:40 am
Florida? Even though I live in Florida, I know that it is NOT a place to see. There is Disney World and some nice beaches…but they have condos everywhere on them! And Las Vegas? They should not be included on that list!
January 5th, 2010 at 11:34 pm
it is very wonderful, i wish i could come to that places
January 24th, 2010 at 9:20 am
Florida and Las Vegas – I do think so!
January 29th, 2010 at 7:52 pm
Las vegas? Who the hell would wanna go there? Only thing thats good about vegas is all the prostitutes carry cards to show you they don’t have any std’s.
Other then that ur just going their to sit in a casino and blow cash, then try and rationalize that at least you got to see some good preformers even though you really just bankrupt urself.
And I never really liked france. The towers ugly, the sewer system reaks to high heaven, and those people smell. What the fuck is romantic about that? Plus they sell people there. I mean if I was gonna say romance id say italy. France is just overrated.

Everyone on here cannot say whether any of these are a place of beauty or not because that is just personal opinion and these have been selected on natural beauty, modern beauty or historic beauty ect. and I have to say that all of these destinations fall into one of these categories.
Even though the comments section is so you can express your views, I find some people have too strong of an opinion, I mean, it’s just a web site and there is no point kickin’ off about it.

And also, everyone who is dissin’ Florida I would assume they have only experienced centeral Florida (Orlando), in my opinion all of Florida has got to be a ‘Wonderful Place To Visit In Your Lifetime’, but southern Florida (Miami) is great because it is still a tourist destination but much less than Orlando.

A lesser known place, but still one of the most beautiful that I have seen in the world, is Buzios, Brazil. It is a fishing village/resort town made famous by Briggette Bardow. You can view a few, non-professional, pictures at my site http://www.bornagainbrazilian.com.
