You think that you have seen a lot of snow in winter? How about this “lotsa snow” – during Russian winter?
And then in spring when it starts melting… Cars drive around the streets like the boats thru small rivers.

I’ve lived in various parts of Canada and I’ve seen drifts like that more than a couple of times. Steve sounds like he’s from Toronto or Vancouver. Once you get further north you can, and do see this kind of snow.

I’m not sure if we’ve ever have gotten quite that much snow in Syracuse, but certainly not far from it. Snowbanks much taller than me are the norm in winter.

Reminds me of the snows Austria used to get back in the 80′s. I recall going along roads cleared with 10m of snow either side, it was like driving down a canyon.
Either way, this kind of snow fall is just scary as it cuts you off for ages and not just from easily getting to the shops but from food, heating, electricity and water. There are some places we are just not meant to live.

I live in lead South Dakota. for those of you on the coasts, that is in the interior of the US. over the last 3 days we have gotten 40 inches of snow. That’s 101 cm for those of you that use a measurement system that makes sense. couple that with 40 mph winds and you have drifts that dwarf Russia’s. This is normal for us.

This is what I love about countries that get REAL winters. They get shit done no matter what. Unlike Britian, they called 3 inches of snow an “arctic winter” and nearly all schools closed.
